When NBC told us they liked the Side Dish so much we want to convert some to hockey we were both excited and frightened. We wanted to do more, but time was not on our side. Maybe it is just us, but it simply is not thanksgiving without the leftover sandwich the next day, so pitching them another branding in this project was a must. We pulled together this brand in the 11th hour and no matter if you call it a Gobbler, A Pilgrim, the Black Friday Special, or simply a Leftover Sandwich we absolutely love this brand.
We wanted to have a little more fun with this one, and what is more fun than a turkey head popping out of the bread of a sandwich? Stuffing and cranberry sauce leaking out the side, this really is the cherry on top of this entire project for NBC Sports. A nice mix of clean design and aggressive mascot design with a baby blue stroke to represent the nature of this traditionally cold sandwich. We are actually pretty partial to the secondary logo as that turkey head turned our much better than we ever thought in the timeframe.
The jerseys were the tricky part. White is to clean, and brown is too dark. Cream is very big in hockey as a base, but we needed it to be a little darker than usual. finding that Goldilocks zone (in warp speed) was difficult. We found that having a traditional color palette (cream. marroon, brown) with an updated styling (mixing in the baby blue) was just what this uniform needed to be both true to brand and believable as a sports design.
The Barn helped us take on the exciting task of revamping not only our logo, but our entire brand. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the attention to detail and assistance with project management from Nick and his team. <It> was terrifying, but The Barn made the process feel almost effortless and brought our vision to life in the most vivid way.
